COMMENTARY WAS A WAKE-UP CALL

IN RESPONSE to Ruth E. Haignere's July 23 letter to the editor ("Much space taken to say little") regarding Linda Bowles' July 2 commentary (Helpful Suggestions to a Failing President), I must say that it was indeed refreshing to see the conservative viewpoint represented in the media.

Although refreshing, the presence of Linda Bowles' commentary in print was no surprise. Is it any wonder that the media that supported Bill Clinton so strongly during the campaign should now be so critical of their savior as to print an antagonistic article? The media are cruel mistresses.

In addition, I feel compelled to correct Ms. Haignere' claim the Bowles' commentary "was not informative, did not prove a point and held no truths." She certainly is entitled to her opinion concerning Linda Bowles' writing style. However, there are certain facts within the article that simply cannot be disputed. For example, is Ms. Haignere denying that Bill Clinton confessed to "avoiding" Vietnam? Understand, that which one admits to be true cannot be libel.

Linda Bowles' commentary serves as a wake-up call urging Americans to look at the man behind the facade.
