FBI ARRESTS 2 IN THEFT, SALE OF CORNING SECRETS

Two Europeans accused of stealing trade secrets worth $10 million from an Owens-Corning fiberglass plant in Belgium were arrested at a hotel Saturday.

A French-speaking FBI agent posed as an Owens-Corning competitor interested in buying documents stolen from the plant in Batiste, Belgium. The agent recovered the documents and made the arrests, said FBI spokesman Larry Curtin.

Marcel Pauly, 48, and Michel Russo, 34, were charged with interstate transportation of stolen property. Each faces up to 10 years in prison and a $10,000 fine.

Pauly is a French national and was an Owens-Corning mechanic for 20 years, authorities said. Russo is an Italian private investigator who was born in Belgium.

The papers detailed the manufacturing process of fiberglass reinforcement for plastics used in automotive, electrical and appliance parts, Curtin said.
