ROANOKE SOFTBALL TEAM ADVANCES

Kristina McMillian hit 3-for-3 and batted in four runs as North Roanoke American trounced South Carolina 15-9 in the opening game of the Ponytail Division of the Dixie World Series at Zephyrhills, Fla. Saturday.

North Roanoke led 4-0 after four innings before scoring nine runs in the fifth to blow the game open. Brett Newman went 3-for-3 with an RBI and scored twice and Katie Wimmer hit two RBI-singles to lead the Virginia team.

Marcie Henry pitched 5 2/3 innings for North Roanoke. She struck out 10 batters, walked seven and allowed three runs on one hit.

North Roanoke American will play the winner of an Alabama/North Carolina game tonight at 8.
