KINSLOW, WELLS WIN DRAPER MILE RACE

Phil Kinslow captured the men's overall title, and Debbie Wells won the women's overall title in Blacksburg's 12th annual Draper Mile. Kinslow, who won with a time of four minutes and three seconds, finished six seconds ahead of second-place finisher Ben Thomas. Wells won by 10 seconds over Wairimu Njambi in a time of 5:14. There were 121 finishers.

Mike Huryse and Terry Brunner won individual titles at the Greater Roanoke Valley Biathlon Championship in Catawba. Huryse won the men's individual title and Brunner won the women's individual title. One hundred sixty racers competed in the 4.6 miles of running, and 16.5 miles of bicycling.

Robert W. Thompson of Roanoke set four world records Saturday at the International Powerlifting Federation 1993 World Police and Firefighters Olympics held in Colorado Springs, Colo. Competiting in the 220-pound, age 50-54 division, the Roanoke City detective set records with a 540-pound squat, a 325-pound bench press and a 584-pound deadlift for a record of 1,449 pounds.
