NO LONGER FORGOTTEN VETS

JULY 27TH MARKED the 40th year since the cease-fire in the Korean War. On the front page of the Roanoke Times & World-News on that day were two reports by staff writer Mike Hudson. Koren War veterans, Garland Slayton and Eugene Tayloe, were the focus of the reports.

The Korean War, its cost in lives, its veterana and its effect here and abroad have too long been overlooked.

After a long struggle, ground was finally broken in Washington, D.C., for the erection of a Korean War Veteran's Memorial. Public attention will finally offer recognition these veterans should already have had already. It's sad they have had to struggle for it, but I am glad they will see it. I am appreciative that the newspaper and Mike Hudson brought the Forgotteen War to remembrance. These veterans have long deserved more than they have been given. K. LOUISE PADGETT SALEM
