FOR EVERY KISS, WE NOW CAN GET A SWEETER HUG

Since when is a Hug sweeter than a Kiss? Since Hershey's affectionately introduced a new counterpart to its milk chocolate treat.

The newborn Hug is in essence a Kiss with thin strips of white chocolate wrapped around it - hugging it, so to speak. The white chocolate provides the extra sweetness.

Retaining the Kiss' distinctive shape, the bite-size Hug is only the second alteration to the confection in its 86-year history.

Hershey began offering a version of the candy with almonds three years ago.

Although Hershey Foods Corp. planned to unveil the Hug today, it already is appearing in a few stores.

One marketing strategist questioned whether the public could handle both Hugs and Kisses.

"If you introduce the Hugs, where is the business coming from?" said Jack Trout, president of Trout & Ries of Greenwich, Conn. "I'm afraid it may be coming from the Kisses."
