T.M. Smith is the first officer from any agency in Pulaski County to complete the 10-week training program, Chief E.J. Williams said.
The academy qualifies law enforcement personnel as crime scene search officers. They learn to recognize, collect and preserve evidence for laboratory examination and become familiar with the capabilities and limitations of modern forensic laboratories where the evidence is examined.
Williams said he thought Smith's training would benefit the department and help in the successful prosecution of violent offenders in the community.
