NAMES ON CAMPUS

Richmond businesswoman VALORIE WATKINS has been named assistant provost of the New College of Global Studies.

Watkins is an honors graduate of Hampton Institute in Tidewater and received a law degree from Boston University.

\ MICHAEL CRONIN, director of oral communications, RICK OLSEN, JANET STAHL and GUS ZADER were co-authors and national winners in the "Innovations in Multimedia" contest, co-sponsored by the Technological Horizons in Education magazine and Sony.

The competition was created to recognize excellence in multimedia applications.

\ ROBERT SMALL, dean of the College of Education and Human Development, has had an essay published on the importance of the novel "Flowers for Algernon."

\ JOHN BRYAN has been appointed executive director for information technology resources.

In this newly created position, Bryan will be responsible for planning and managing academic and administrative information technology.

\ DEBORAH BROWN, director of public information and relations, was the keynote speaker at a conference in Abingdon sponsored by the Virginia Organization of Resource Development.

\ GARY UPP, academic coordinator for athletics, and graduate Paul Hightower, assistant director of athletics at Duquesne University, recently teamed up to deliver a presentation in Denver on developing an academic support program for college student athletes.
