AMATEUR RADIO CLASS STARTS AUG. 23

Anyone interested in obtaining a Morse code-free Technician class amateur radio license can sign up for a class that starts Aug. 23 at Virginia Ham Radio Supply, 2208 Childress Road. The class, MEET 128-70, is sponsored by New River Community College. It will meet Mondays and Wednesdays from 7 until 9 p.m. through Oct. 27.

The class will prepare applicants to pass the written test for the license, which does not have a Morse-code requirement. Instructor Bob Cecil, a veteran ham radio operator and electronics teacher, will discuss Federal Communications Commission regulations, ham radio operating practices and procedures, radio and electronics theory, circuit components and much more.

Holders of the codeless Technician license can communicate using voice and digital modes on certain ham radio frequencies.

There is a $40 registration fee for this class.

For more information, call Bob Cecil, 382-3690, or New River Community College, 674-3607.
