RADFORD TRYING TO KEEP NRVS POINTS LEAD

With four races remaining, Paul Radford is slipping but still holding off Ronnie Thomas in the battle for the Late Model Stock Car championship at New River Valley Speedway in Radford.

Going into Saturday night's 100-lap feature of the Miller Genuine Draft/J-93.5 200, Radford holds a 30-point lead. During the past two weeks, Thomas has gained 24 points on the 64-year-old driver, who never has won a LMSC title in his 41 years of racing.

The car manufacturers' bragging rights also are up for grabs. Thomas and his Ford have nine victories, and Chevy drivers Radford, Johnny Rumley and Kenny Prillaman have a combination of nine.

In addition to the feature event, the Limited Sportsmen drivers will go for 35 laps, and the Modified Mini, Mini and Pure Stock divisions each race for 25 laps.

Gates open at 2 p.m., with practice getting under way at 4. Qualifying begins at 6:15, and the first green flag falls at 8 p.m. Admission is $8 for adults and $1 for children 10 and under.
