On July 30, Homestead employees voted 561-239 against union representation, but union officials have asked that the vote be set aside. The union contends employees were intimated before the vote because hotel management said a pending sale of the nearly bankrupt resort would fall through if the union won.
A labor board spokesman said Thursday that the investigation is in "very preliminary stages" and a decision on the vote likely won't come before the end of August.
Once the labor board gets the union's material, Homestead officials will be given time to respond to the claims.
The board then will decide whether to call a hearing for further investigation, set aside the election or dismiss the union's objection as unfounded.
The election outcome has been kept in the news by both sides.
Some employees staged rallies asking the union to withdraw its objection so the sale to the potential buyer, Club Resorts Inc. of Dallas, could go through. And a union official has asked the FBI to investigate threats allegedly made against him and other union people by supervisors at the resort.
The union has indicated it would withdraw its objection if some plan for job security or unemployment support could be worked out with Club Resorts.
