DOWN SO LOW: B.B. King, Buddy Guy, Koko Taylor and Junior Wells will headline the Great American Blues Festival on Thursday evening at 6 at the Hardee's Pavilion at Walnut Creek Amphitheatre in Raleigh.

Those legends will be joined by Lonnie Brooks and Eric Johnson in what should be an outstanding evening of emotions, from sad to joyful. Tickets are $16.75, $19.75 and $24.75 per person. They can be obtained from Ticketmaster outlets, or by calling (919) 834-4000.

J-E-L-L-OOOOOH! Take a large bowl of lime Jello and a lively bunch of people determined to raise money for Virginia's Area 8 Special Olympics, and you'll get the Jello Jump, an annual event at Smith Mountain Lake. This year's dives into 1,000 gallons of the green stuff will begin Saturday afternoon at 2 at Bridgewater Plaza.

Costumes are encouraged. T-shirts will be given to divers who raise more than $50, and some good will be done: Area 8 serves 500 athletes from this area. The donations will be applied to training programs, area c
