``The Larry Sanders Show,'' starring Shandling as a mondo-neurotic late-night talk-show host, will return to HBO for two more seasons, the cable network announced Wednesday. Seventeen episodes will be produced each year, bringing the hit show's four-season total to 65.
The renewal of ``Sanders'' means Shandling's on-again, off-again flirtation with CBS is definitely off. At least for two years. CBS had reportedly been wooing Shandling to host a new late-late-show after David Letterman's laugh riot at 12:30 a.m.
Brad Grey, Shandling's manager and co-exec producer of ``Sanders,'' had no comment on the CBS situation beyond saying Shandling is committed to ``Sanders'' ``for right now'' and has no intention of doing a real talk show ``right now.''
Shandling's decision to continue with ``Sanders'' was made solely on a creative basis, Grey says. ``
