ROUND AND ROUND WITH TAYLOR

POOR OLD Whitey Taylor. The law is always picking on him.

Of course, one suspects that's the way he likes it - up to a point. Taylor has always seemed to operate on the principle that any publicity is good publicity for his stock-car racetrack in Callaway. A little brouhaha with the sheriff over drinking at the Franklin County Speedway isn't going to hurt attendance any. Might even help; who knows?

Taylor's business is entertaining the masses, and that's what he's been doing with this feud that's been simmering between him and Sheriff Quint Overton. Now that it's bubbling real good, it's near about as lively a spectator sport as watching the underdog break from the pack on the final lap of a championship race. It's tempting to sit back and enjoy the show.

Except that matters are getting out of hand. You know it's getting serious when the sheriff asks the Circuit Court to shut the speedway down.

Racing doesn't rank high on everyone's list of favorite pastimes. It doesn't make the list at all for some.
