The success of this event depends on volunteer walkers and on pledges, so it's not too early to start talking about it. Each year, communities throughout the country walk to raise money to help alleviate world hunger through Church World Service programs.
However, not all of the money raised will be leaving town. Twenty-five percent will be divided among the Women's Resource Center, Radford-Fairlawn Daily Bread and the Radford Food Pantry.
The Radford CROP walk, sponsored by the Radford-Fairlawn Ministerial Association, will be a 6.2-mile hike. It will start Oct. 17 at 2 p.m. from the Dedmon Center at Radford University.
For more information, call Polly Jackson, 639-1279, or Gina Rhea, 639-3288.
Some exciting youth activities are ahead at CHRISTIANSBURG PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH, W. Main St.:
Middle school youth group members will be "Exploring the Possibilities," as they go on retreat at Camp Alta Mons in Shawsville Aug. 27-29.

Both the middle and high school youth groups will visit the Roanoke Rescue Mission on Aug. 22 for a tour and a program about homelessness. That's in preparation for The Great Sleepout of '93 on Sept. 10., when members of both groups will get sponsors to pledge money to endow a bed at the homeless shelter. Participating youths then will camp outside all night at the Rescue Mission parking lot.
