VMI GRAD'S BODY PULLED FROM LAKE

The body of a 22-year-old Richlands man who graduated from Virginia Military Institute in May was recovered Friday morning from South Holston Lake near the Sportsman Marina.

David Bruce Jordan III had left a friend's home about 9 p.m. Thursday to swim in the lake, according to the Washington County Sheriff's Department.

He was reported missing shortly before midnight.

Diving teams from Richlands and Smyth County found the body at 9:24 a.m.

Lt. Don Hash of the Sheriff's Office said an investigation is under way.

Hash said an autopsy will be carried out at the medical examiner's office in Roanoke.

Jordan had worked on the cadet newspaper at VMI and planned a career in journalism, said a spokesman in the VMI public relations office.
