LEXINGTON'S NICELY WINS 2 AT STATE SENIOR AM

Lexington's Blair Nicely won two matches Friday at the 42nd Virginia Senior Men's Amateur golf championship at Golden Horseshoe in Williamsburg.

Nicely whipped Craig Callahan 5 and 4 in the first round, then ousted Don Bailey 1-up in the second round. He will face Wayne Jackson, who upset defending champion Moss Beecroft 1-up in 20 holes in the second round, in today's quarterfinals.

Roanoke's Gib Wingfield won his first-round match 2 and 1 over Stuart Northrup before losing in the second round 2 and 1 to Frank Summers. Roanoke's two other match-play qualifiers, Ned Baber and Bill Shrader, both lost in the opening round. Baber fell 2-up to Bill Herman, while Shrader was beaten 5 and 4 by Henry Kerfoot.
