HEBRON HELPS EAGLES TOPPLE JETS

A little of the old and a little of the new worked for the Philadelphia Eagles on Friday night.

Veterans Randall Cunningham and Herschel Walker combined for one touchdown, and rookie Vaughn Hebron starred on offense as the Eagles beat the New York Jets 24-13 in East Rutherford, N.J.

Cunningham looked sharp in the first half, completing 9 of 13 passes for 181 yards. He hit Bailey with a perfectly thrown 42-yarder to give the Eagles a 14-6 lead, then found Walker, who made a spinning catch between two defenders for an 18-yard score and a 21-6 halftime edge.

Earlier, Hebron broke free past linebacker Mo Lewis for a 41-yard reception that set up James Joseph's 3-yard TD run. Hebron also had runs of 11 and 27 yards.

The free agent from Virginia Tech rushed for 67 yards on six carries, giving him 153 in 22 carries (a 6.9 average) in preseason games.

\ GOUVEIA ORDERED TO HELP: Kurt Gouveia of the Washington Redskins will help in a blood drive to make up for community service he didn't perform after a reckless driving conviction, his attorney said.

The linebacker's attorney, Lawrie Falck Rollison, said Gouveia also will help with the county Sheriff's Department's child outreach program.

Gouveia, 28, was convicted of reckless driving last July after a trooper clocked his vehicle traveling 119 mph in a 65 mph zone on Interstate 95 in Stafford. In addition to paying a $500 fine, Gouveia was supposed to complete the community service by the end of March.

Ms. Rollison said Gouveia has donated much more than 100 hours in community service, but none of it in Stafford.
