BULLS SEND BUCS TO 6-4 SETBACK

Joe Ayrault's two-run single in the fifth inning broke a 4-4 tie and lifted the Durham Bulls to a 6-4 Carolina League win over the Salem Buccaneers on Friday night.

Lance Marks added a two-run homer, his 10th, as Durham won its third game in a row.

Sean Lawrence (0-2) took the loss for Salem, which fell to 19-31 and remained mired in the Southern Division basement.

Kevin Polcovich had a two-run homer and Jon Farrell a solo shot for the Bucs.

Chris Seelbach (6-9) beat Salem for the second time in the past week with relief help from Dirk Blair, who pitched 2 2/3 perfect innings, and ex-Virginia Tech star Brad Clontz, who pitched the ninth and picked up his eighth save.

The second game of the three-game series is tonight. Durham sends Mike Place (0-1) to the hill to face Salem's Michel LaPlante (2-1).

After the Durham series wraps up Sunday, the Bucs move on to Winston-Salem for a three-game set before returning home next Friday to open a three-game homestand with Kinston. \
