FORT PICKETT ACCIDENT KILLS RESERVE OFFICER

A Pennsylvania Army Reserve officer died and two soldiers were injured Thursday when an armored personnel carrier they were in overturned, Fort Pickett officials said Friday.

The identities of the victims were not released.

Nine soldiers from reserve units in Chambersburg, Pa., and Huntingdon, Pa., were riding in the vehicle about 2:30 p.m. when the accident occurred, said Captain George Wilkins, a personnel officer for the First Battalion 314th Mechanized.

The units from central Pennsylvania were participating in an annual two-week active duty training mission at Fort Pickett, he said.

The two injured men remained hospitalized Friday night. The U.S. Army Safety Center in Fort Rucker, Ala., is investigating the accident, Wilkins said.
