OBIT HAMMOND, DR. AMOS PATTON, III (PAT)
HAMMOND, Dr. Amos Patton, III (Pat) , age 53, of Troutville, passed away
August 10, 1993, in Pikeville, Kentucky. He was a member of Colonial Baptist
Church, Blue Ridge, Va. He was director of the Math Science Resource Center
and was a science professor of Pikeville College. He was a graduate of Roanoke
College, had a Master's degree from Radford University and a Doctorate of
Education from the University of Virginia. He was a science teacher in the
Roanoke County School system from 1964 to 1990 and was also adjunct instructor
at Virginia Western Community College, Roanoke College, and the University of
Virginia. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1961 to 1964 as Lieutenant
Commander. He is survived by his wife, Patricia (Pat) Hammond; son, Ray
Hammond; and daughter-in-law, Nancy Hammond; two grandchildren, Paul and
Rebecca Hammond; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. A.P. Hammond, Jr., Roanoke; his
father-in-law and mother-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Hatcher, Troutville.
Funeral services will be conducted at Oakey's North Chapel, 1 p.m. Saturday,
August 14, with his pastor, The Rev. Donald W. Eade and The Rev. Robert M.
Hamner officiating. Burial will be in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens. Those who
prefer may make memorials to the Library Fund of Colonial Baptist Church, 106
Hillcrest St., Blue Ridge, Va. 24064, or the Building Fund, Pikeville College,
Pikeville, Kentucky 41501-1194. Friends may call at Oakey's North Chapel after
2 pm Friday.
