OBIT MURRAY, FRED R. SR.
MURRAY, Fred R. Sr., 71, of Marion, died Friday, August 13, 1993 in Smyth
County Community Hospital, following a long illness. He was of the Baptist
faith, lifelong resident of Smyth County, a member of the Marion VFW Post
#4667 and American Legion Post #18. Mr. Murray was a veteran of World War II,
serving in the U S Army. His unit landed in France on D-Day + three. He saw
action in France, Belgium and Germany. Mr. Murray was employed by Brunswick
Corporation for 22 years, owned and operated Murray's Seven Day Mart in the
Walker's Creek Community. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mildred Taylor
Murray. He is survived by two sons, Fred R. Murray Jr., and Joseph (Tater)
Murray, both of Chilhowie; three daughters, Dottie Murray Small, Redondo
Beach, Calif., Bonnie Murray and Patsy Ishihara, both of Marion; one brother,
W. Kelley Murray, Marion; six grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Monday, August 16, 1993 at Seaver-Brown
Chapel. Burial will follow in Rose Lawn Cemetery, where military rites will be
conducted by Marion VFW Post #4667. The family will receive friends Sunday
evening from 7 to 9 p.m. at Seaver-Brown Chapel.
