Fisher-Price recalls Snuggle Lights dolls

EAST AURORA, N.Y. - Toymaker Fisher-Price Inc. is recalling 420,000 dolls whose cloth caps may present a choking hazard to children.

The company said it had received reports of five children choking or gagging on a pom-pom attached to the nightcap from its Snuggle Lights doll, which has been on the market since February 1992.

Fisher-Price is replacing the dolls with a new model in which the hat is sewn to the doll's head to eliminate the danger.

Consumers can get a replacement doll by cutting off the pom-pom on its cap and returning it with the product label to Fisher-Price Consumer Affairs, 636 Girard Ave., East Aurora, N.Y., 14052. - Associated Press

SCC won't view C&P easier-rules request

RICHMOND - State regulators have declined to consider C&P Telephone Co. of Virginia's request for looser regulations on some of its rates and profits.

The State Corporation Commission said it is too early to review the Richmond-based company's plan to substitute a system of temporary price caps for traditional regulation of earnings based on the cost of service. A state law that took effect July 1 allows the SCC to adopt alternative regulation for telephone companies.

Commission officials said regulators must first complete an evaluation of a 4 1/2-year experimental plan for relaxing control over the state's five largest telephone companies. - Associated Press
