GULF WAR VETERAN TO HEAD WYVE

David Roederer, a Kentucky native and a lieutenant colonel who recently completed active National Guard service stemming from Operation Desert Storm, is the new general manager and vice president of WYVE Radio of Wytheville.

"I look forward to my return from military duty and the opportunity to manage WYVE," he said.

"The station has had a long history of serving the Mountain Empire region and being involved in many community events. I am indeed fortunate to have this opportunity to lead a station with so many rich traditions. I plan on being totally involved in this great community and stand ready to do whatever it takes to make WYVE responsive to the needs of the Mountain Empire," he said.

Roederer and his wife, Shirley, a registered nurse, have six children, all grown and living in Frankfort, Ky. Roederer was involved in the return and repair of equipment from the Gulf War.

"We are very fortunate to have someone of Dave's experience to lead WYVE," said Gary Hearl, spokesman for the Cumberland Group of Richlands which owns WYVE as well as WPSK in Pulaski.

"He has had a long and successful career with bluegrass broadcasting of Lexington, Ky., and his experience covers both management of radio and television operations in Kentucky," said Hearl, who joined Ralph Davis of the Cumberland Group in making the announcement.

New River Media Group, a wholly owned subsidiary of the Cumberland Group, has applied to the Federal Communications Commission to buy two more stations, WJJJ and WVVV, now owned by Blacksburg-Christiansburg Broadcasting Co.
