Berry Gordy and Michael Jackson were honored in Atlanta at the annual Jack the Rapper awards, named for the pioneering black disc jockey.
Gordy, the founder of Motown Records, received the "Original 13 Award" for his legendary work in the music industry. The "13" were a group of black DJs, including Jack "The Rapper" Gibson, instrumental in pushing early rock. Jackson was given the "Our Children, Our Hope of Tomorrow Award," which was named after him.
