OBIT KENNEDY, DORIS JEAN BOONE

KENNEDY, Doris Jean Boone, 61, of Harrisonburg, died Sunday evening, August 15, 1993, at the Rockingham Memorial Hospital, where she had been a patient since Thursday, August 12, 1993. A daughter of the late Harry Boone and Vassie Greer Boone, she was born on July 2, 1932, in Rocky Mount. She graduated from Madison College (now James Madison University) and received her Bachelor's Degree of Science in Nursing from the Medical College of Virginia. She was a member of the Alpha Sigma Tau Social Society, the Alpha Sigma Chi Leadership Fraternity and was president of the MCV School of Nursing Student Body in 1955. Mrs. Kennedy was a Public Health Nurse in Franklin and Alleghany Counties for several years, and resided in Hot Springs until moving to Harrisonburg in 1968. She was an active member of the RMH Auxillary and was awarded an honorary lifetime membership to the American Cancer Society. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church. On September 29, 1956, she married Dr. Ralph Oscar Kennedy, who preceded her in death on April 29, 1978. Surviving are two daughters, Katherine Morin of Norfolk and Martha Irvin of Richlands; one son, Daniel B. Kennedy of Harrisonburg; four grandchildren, Miles and Reid Morin of Norfolk and Mason and Anne Irvin of Richlands; one sister, Mary Ann Hash of Nashville, Tenn.; two brothers, Vester Boone of Statesville, N.C. and Andrew Boone of Rocky Mount. Funeral services will be held Wednesday morning at 11 from the First Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Robert S. Wells officiating. Burial will be in Woodbine Cemetery. Her body now rests at the Lindsey Harrisonburg Funeral Home. The casket will be closed. Friends may call at the Kennedy home.
