GIVING CHILDREN A GOOD START

IF VICKI Honer is God's gift to nursing mothers, then Lynn Coyle (July 28 ``Off-Beat`` column entitled ``Mom recalls joy of nursing'') and the Roanoke Times & World-News are God's gifts to the general public.

I was impressed with the way that the community pulled together to make the first World Walk for Breast-feeding and Children's Festival a success. This effort is symbolic of the effort that is needed to encourage breast-feeding to be accepted as the cultural norm.

Recently, the city government, businesses, medical professionals, La Leche League leaders, husbands and mothers came together to celebrate society`s most valuable resource - children.

Breast-feeding is the best start for every child. Thank you for helping to spread the word.
