MIGRANT WORKER GETS LIFE IN PRISON FOR ARSON

A Virginia migrant worker received a mandatory sentence of life in prison without parole for his role in an apartment fire that killed one person and injured seven others.

Rene Jose Cajero, 23, drove two others from the scene of the Dec. 30 fire, prosecutors said. He was convicted June 30 of felony murder and first-degree arson and sentenced Monday in Berkeley County Circuit Court.

Two other migrant orchard workers who lived with Cajero in Winchester, Va., were charged in the fire.

Prosecutors say the three migrant workers argued with others in the apartment building over a gun before the fire was set. Elizar Romero, 29, also a migrant worker, died of burns.
