OSCAR AWARD WINNER IRENE SHARAFF DIES

Irene Sharaff, who won Academy Awards for her costumes in such movie classics as "The King and I" and "West Side Story," is dead at age 83.

Sharaff died Monday of congestive heart failure at New York Hospital, according to her friend and lawyer, Jean B. Angell.

During a career that spanned nearly 50 years, Sharaff designed clothes for more than 40 films, including "An American in Paris," "Cleopatra" and "Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf."
