Homestead case goes before NLRB

A lawyer representing the Hotel and Restaurant Employees Union will present the union's appeal of its failed attempt to represent Homestead employees to the National Labor Relations Board in Winston-Salem, N.C., today.

The union had until today to present evidence that officials of the Homestead had intimidated employees prior to a July 30 collective bargaining election. The issue is not likely to be resolved this summer, because the union lawyer, Jonas Katz, has notified the labor board that he will not be available for any other hearings until after Labor Day, said Nancy Wallace, an assistant in the union's Washington office.

The board also will need time to hear the Homestead's response. - Staff report
