OBIT-FITZGERALD, ROBERT J. SR.

FITZGERALD, Robert J. Sr. 79, of Roanoke, died Monday, August 16, 1993. He was a retired engineer from Norfolk & Western Railway with 32 years of service, and was a member of Cave Spring Baptist Church. Mr. Fitzgerald was an honorary life member of B.P.O.E. Lodge #197 in Roanoke. Surviving is his wife of 48 years, Martha Michael Fitzgerald; a daughter and son-in-law, Anita and Ronald Scott, Dunwoody, Ga.; sons, Robert (Jeff) Fitzgerald Jr. and wife, Elizabeth, Sandy, Utah, Stephen P. Fitzgerald, Roanoke, M. D. Fitzgerald and wife, Lynn, Roanoke, James Fitzgerald and wife, Laurie, Salem; 11 grandchildren; three brothers, Lawrence Fitzgerald, Albert Fitzgerald and wife, Lorraine, all of Roanoke, Alfred Fitzgerald, Salem. Graveside services will be in Evergreen Burial Park at 2 p.m. Wednesday. The Rev. Richard Elmore and Dr. Woodrow Clark will officiate. Friends may call at Oakey's South Chapel after noon Tuesday, where the family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Cave Spring Baptist Church, Cave Spring Rescue Squad, or to the Alzheimer's Foundation.
