TICKET ORDERS DUE FOR BRICKYARD 400

Ticket applications for the first Brickyard 400 NASCAR Winston Cup race must be postmarked by Friday or they won't be accepted, a spokesman for Indianapolis Motor Speedway said.

Ticket requests for the weekend of racing Aug. 4-6, 1994, were taken starting July 1 for Indianapolis 500 ticket-holders. Wednesday was the first day applications were accepted from other race fans, spokesman Bob Walters said.

"I think `overwhelmed' with today's response would be a very fair statement," Walters said Wednesday. "We had thousands of pieces of overnight express mail waiting for us."

The top price for a reserved seat for the Aug. 6 race is $100.

Walters would not say how many applications the speedway has received or how many tickets would be allocated.
