COUNCILMAN SAYS MORE WATER NEEDED SOON

Pulaski's water use has reached 85 percent of its production capacity and Town Councilman Andrew Graham says it is time to look for an additional supply.

Graham told other council members at a meeting Tuesday night that the town's water plant had to be operated 19 1/2 hours on some days to produce all the water that was being used.

He said industries like Magnox Inc., Renfro Corp. and Pulaski Furniture Corp., all major town water users and all planning expansions, are likely to use even more water in the future.

Town Manager Thomas Combiths said the staff will prepare a plan for operating the town's water system and submit it to council soon.

Council's Finance Committee reported that the town's general fund balance at the end of the 1992-93 fiscal year was $591,505, but that not all town obligations for the year have been accounted for.

Council approved a Finance Committee recommendation to donate bicycles left unclaimed in the Police Department's lost and found or confiscated items to the Pulaski County Chamber of Commerce fund-raising auction scheduled for 5 p.m. Saturday at New River Community College.

Usually the bikes are auctioned by the town, but bring little money that way. Ten were sold in 1990 for a total of $65 and 10 in 1991 for $81.

Councilman Don Crispin said those town sales might be the only way youngsters with little money can get to own a bike. The Finance Committee recommended that, in the future, the unclaimed bikes be donated to a charitable organization such as the Salvation Army.
