SUPERVISOR LEAVES GRAYSON BOARD

The Grayson County Board of Supervisors accepted the resignation Wednesday of its first woman member, who had four months to go on her term.

Rebecca Dickenson, who served one year as board chairwoman after defeating an incumbent in 1989, resigned after missing two consecutive monthly meetings of the four-member board.

Previously the operator of a floral shop and bakery in Independence, she now works for Harold Foods Co. in Charlotte, N.C., and is in the county only on weekends.

County Administrator Don Young said Thursday that the Circuit Court will decide whether the Elk Creek seat will remain vacant until the November election or someone will be appointed to complete the remaining months of Dickenson's term.
