ROANOKE TEAM IN USTA TOURNAMENT

A Roanoke men's tennis team begins play today in the USTA men's 3.5 adult league sectional tournament at Wintergreen resort. Led by captain Marshall Cooper and co-captain Ray Lingle, the team won the district tournament in Richmond Aug. 6-8. Sectional winners advance to the national tournament in Tucson, Ariz. in October.

Ryan Ketron shot a 2-under-par 69 as William Byrd won the first Blue Ridge District golf tournament of the season at par-71 Countryside. The Terriers had a team score of 299. Northside was six strokes back at 305, followed by Lord Botetourt (311), Alleghany (347), Rockbridge County (351) and Salem (362).
