GARDNER, Sherman Rush, 78, formerly of Lowmoor Ave., Pulaski, passed away
early Thursday morning August 19, 1993 in the Elder Lodge Landmark Health Care
Center, Greensboro, N.C. Born December 25, 1914 in Fancy Gap, he was the son
of the late John William Gardner and Jessie Lee Coulson Gardner. He was
preceded in death by his wife, Hazel Josephine Ratcliff Gardner. He was a
member of the Thornspring United Methodist Church, Pulaski, and was a retired
employee of the Radford Army Ammunition Plant. Surviving are one daughter,
Mrs. C. Michael (Darlene) McPeak, Greensboro, N.C.; one son, Jerry Leon
Gardner, Greensboro, N.C.; four grandchildren, Angela McPeak, Jana McPeak,
Timothy Gardner, Bradley Gardner; one sister, Mrs. Leona Harrison Clemmons,
N.C.; two brothers, Lowman Gardner, Pulaski, Chester Gardner, Pulaski; three
half sisters, Mrs. Irene Sands, Winston-Salem, N.C., Mrs. Violet Stafford,
Pfafftown, N.C., Mrs. Peggy Rights, Winton-Salem, N.C.; three half brothers,
Leo Gardner, Winston-Salem, N.C., Eugene Gardner, Salisbury, N.C., John
Gardner, Winston-Salem, N.C. Funeral services will be held Saturday 2 p.m.
from the Thornspring United Methodist Church with the Rev. Cecil J. Baxter
officiating. Interment will follow in the Thornspring Cemetery, Pulaski.
Visiting will be any time Friday after 4 p.m. and the family will receive
friends from 7 to 9 p.m. from the Bower Funeral Chapel, 1631 Bobwhite Blvd.,
Pulaski. Mr. Gardner will be placed in the church by 12:30 Saturday to lie in
state until the hour of service. Bower Funeral Chapel, Pulaski is handling the
arrangements.
