David Letterman will kick off his "Late Show" on CBS with guest Bill Murray, the actor-comedian who also helped launch Letterman's "Late Night" on NBC more than a decade ago. And thanks to serendipitous scheduling, both programs will be aired the same night.

CBS confirmed Friday that Murray and musician Billy Joel will be on hand for Letterman's Aug. 30 premiere at 11:35 p.m. EDT.

An hour later, NBC, which is telecasting "Late Night" reruns until Conan O'Brien takes over the show Sept. 13, will repeat that original kickoff program featuring a much younger Letterman and Murray. It first aired Feb. 1, 1982.

\ Kim Basinger and Alec Baldwin are no longer one of Hollywood's most glamorous unmarried couples.

The two tied the knot Thursday night in a torchlight ceremony on a public beach in East Hampton., N.Y.

Paul Newman, Billy Joel, Christie Brinkley, Chynna Phillips and Hollywood's Baldwin brothers - William, Stephen and Daniel - were among about 100 guests.

\ Saxophonist Clarence Clemons, a longtime member of Bruce Springsteen's E Street Band, is doing his part to help Big Brothers-Big Sisters of America.

Dozens of fans crowded into a Braintree, Mass., drug store to meet him this week during a four-city series of benefit appearances. Clemons strolled down the shampoo aisle shaking hands, then signed autographs and posed for photos with fans, mostly baby boomers with their own children in tow.

Clemons has appeared with the Grateful Dead and Ringo Starr, among others. In January, he jammed with President Clinton at one of the inaugural balls. He recently finished filming his role as a saxophone player in "Fatal Instinct," a Carl Reiner film.
