OBIT HAWKS, ROSE MEREDITH

HAWKS, Rose Meredith, 89, of Rt. 2 Box 30, Fancy Gap, died Friday morning, August 20, 1993 at the North Carolina Baptist Hospital in Winston-Salem, N.C. She was the widow of Mr. Roy Garland Hawks Sr. Mrs. Hawks was born in Carroll County, January 16, 1904 to the late Jesse Ewell and Laura Edwards Meredith. She was a member of the Elk Spur Christian United Church of Christ and was a housewife. Surviving are a daughter and son-in-law, Mrs. Dorothy Ann Hawks Utz and Robert Edward Utz, of the home, a daughter-in-law and husband, Mrs. Erna Horton Hawks Parnell and Don Parnell, Winston-Salem, N.C.;three grandaughters, Mrs. Debbie Hawks Vernon and Pete Vernon, Winston-Salem, N.C., Mrs. Vickie Hawks Livengood and Lonnie Livengood, Winston-Salem, N.C., Miss Sharon Meredith Utz, of the home; four great-grandchildren, Angie and Chris Vernon, Amie and Chad Henley, all of Winston-Salem, N.C.; one sister, Mrs. Lannie Meredith Utt, Fancy Gap. Mrs. Hawks was also preceded in death by a son, Mr. Roy Garland Hawks Jr. in 1975 and a grandson, Mr. Bradley L. Hawks, in 1980. Funeral services will be held Sunday, 2 p.m. at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mt. Airy, N.C., conducted by Rev. Robert Hoffman with burial to follow in the Elk Spur Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Moody Funeral Home Saturday from 7 to 9 p.m. where the body will remain until the hour of the service. Memorials may be made to the Elk Spur Church, the Elk Spur Cemetery Fund or to the charity of your choice.
