T. RICHARD BEARD JR. has joined the Roanoke Valley Economic Development Partnership as marketing representative. The North Carolina native has experience as an industrial sales representative with VBS Inc. Material Handling Equipment and E.N. Beard Hardwood Lumber.
He is president and founder of First Fridays at Five Inc., a nonprofit organization that raises money for Roanoke-area charities. He also is active in the Roanoke Jaycees.
The partnership promotes the Roanoke Valley to new and expanding businesses and industry. It is supported by the governments and business communities of Botetourt, Craig, Franklin and Roanoke counties and Roanoke, Salem and Vinton.

Hayes, Seay, Mattern & Mattern Inc. has named MICHAEL BRENNAN, VERNON M. DANIELSEN, JAMES K. LOWE JR., PETER A. SORANIDIS and KENNETH D. SPRIGINGS associates of the firm. NationsBank Corp. has promoted JEAN H. MILLS to assistant vice president. Mills manages the NationsBank Starkey Road office. KRISTIN E. CALLIS HODGES has been named manager at the NationsBank office in Blacksburg. She most recently was a consumer lender at the Starkey Road office. In Abingdon, KAREN M. COLOW has been promoted to assistant vice president. She is the regional marketing specialist for Southwest Virginia.

\ PAT DUNCAN has been elected vice president of Carter Machinery Co. Inc. He oversees all lift-truck division sales and support operations for the company. Duncan joined Carter in 1980.

\ DIAN C. PORTER has been named director of marketing at the Roanoke Airport Mariott hotel. She came from the Holiday Inn Cedar Bluff in Knoxville, Tenn., and previously worked for the Scottsdale Hilton Resort & Spa in Arizona, the Wyndham Vinings Hotel and Hyatt Regency Ravinia, both in Atlanta, and the Hyatt Winston-Salem in North Carolina, as well as Bernard's Landing Resort & Conference Center, Sheraton Airport Inn and Hotel Roanoke.
