1 VERDICT REACHED IN POLICE BEATING CASE

Jurors reached a verdict Saturday for one of two former police officers accused of beating a black man to death, but their decision was sealed until a second jury reaches its decision.

The verdict in the second-degree murder trial of Walter Budzyn came during the eighth day of deliberations - one day after loud, angry voices were heard from the jury room where they were discussing the case.

Earlier Saturday, the jury hearing the case against Budzyn's ex-partner, Larry Nevers, asked for the flashlight Nevers allegedly used to hit the man who died, Malice Green, in the head during the November struggle in a car parked outside a crack house.

Late Saturday afternoon, the Nevers jury recessed for the day without reaching a verdict. Jurors were to take today off then resume deliberations Monday.
