Sophomore quarterback Symmion Willis scored on a 2-yard run, junior fullback Stanley Leigh scored on a 1-yard run and senior linebacker Tom Burns returned a fumble 42 yards for a touchdown.
Senior Josh Schrader and sophomore Patrick Harkleroad each kicked a 23-yard field goal to complete the scoring.
Leading the defensive effort for the Cavaliers were junior linebacker Randy Neal, who had 10 tackles; senior linebacker P.J. Killian, who had eight tackles; and sophomore linebacker Skeet Jones, who also had eight tackles.
Killian recovered a fumble, and Jones had a 13-yard interception return.
The Cavaliers open their season in College Park, Md., on Sept. 4 against Maryland.

Quarterback Maurice DeShazo and wide receiver Antonio Freeman sparked the offense to lead Virginia Tech's scrimmage in Blacksburg.
DeShazo, a junior, completed nine of 13 passes for 190 yards and threw for three touchdowns. He tossed scoring passes of 51 and 12 yards to Freeman, and he hit flanker Steve Sanders on a 19-yard touchdown pass.
Freeman, a junior, also ran back a punt 81 yards for a touchdown.
Freshman Cornell Brown from Lynchburg led the defense with two sacks and two passes broken up.
Linebacker Vernon Dozier had seven tackles, safety Torrian Gray had six stops and linebacker Andy Miller made five.
Tailback Ranall White scored on two short runs, and tailback Dwayne Thomas also crossed the goal line on a short run.
The Hokies open their season Sept. 4 at home against Bowling Green.
