CRASHES KILL SOUTHWEST MAN, YOUTH

A Grayson County man was killed early Sunday when he lost control of his vehicle rounding a curve on Virginia 711, careened down an embankment and struck a tree, state police said.

Authorities think Jeffrey Robert Johnson, 22, of Troutdale, died at the scene between midnight and 8 a.m. The wreckage was discovered after daylight; the crash was not readily visible from the road, police said. Johnson was not wearing a seat belt.

Also Sunday, a Wise County teen-ager died about 12:50 p.m. at Wise General Hospital of injuries sustained in a single-car crash on Virginia 633.

State police said Paul Darnell Mullins, 15, of Pound, was partially ejected from a car driven by his brother, Daryle Clifford Mullins.

Police reports said Daryle Mullins rounded a curve on the wrong side of the road, cut sharply to the right, lost control and hit an embankment about 11 a.m. - Staff report
