WASTING TIME ON ANNEXATION

WHAT'S with the city of Roanoke? Do they not understand the words no, no, no? When they wanted to merge, or take in (over) the county, they used the excuse that people had to go out-of-state to find jobs. Yet they keep hiring from out- of-state and outside the local area.

Most of the work on Dominion Tower was done by out-of-state contractors, as the work on Hotel Roanoke will be. There are many other jobs being filled by out-of-state people; therefore, locals need to go somewhere else.

I and many others do not like the way city government operates. They take and get what they want -Gainsboro, Wells Avenue, the viaduct, building on Peters Creek Road, which isn`t necessary. Also, they charge higher taxes for no better services.

Mayor Bowers should concentrate more on some of these problems, and perhaps he won't have so much spare time to dwell and waste on annexation.
