SIGN OF PRIDE IN OLD SOUTHWEST

IN RESPONSE to your Aug. 13 news article (``Sign of pride may violate rules,'' by staff writer Joel Turner) about the sign at Highland Park School erected by the principal, John Lensch:

I would like to state for the record that Joel Richert does not speak for the Old Southwest neighborhood as a whole. Many of us like the sign just the way it is, in exactly the location that it is. We believe that it should remain there permanently as a point of pride for our neighborhood.

In several ways, the sign looks better and is more appropriate than the two Old Southwest Historic District signs that Ms. Richert and her clique have had so ostentatiously displayed on Franklin Road. Her main problem with the sign at Highland Park School seems to be that she had nothing to do with it.
