BIG INNINGS DOOM BUCS

The Prince William Cannons rode two big innings to a 14-8 victory over the Salem Buccaneers in Carolina League baseball Tuesday night.

Third baseman Tim Cooper led a 13-hit assault with a double, a triple and a home run as the Cannons cuffed three Salem pitchers. Cooper had four runs batted in.

The Buccaneers rallied from a 6-0 first-inning deficit to an 8-6 lead, but Prince William put the game out of reach with a seven-run sixth.

Salem second baseman Chance Sanford had two hits and three RBI to pace the Bucs.

The Cannons touched Salem starter Sean Evans for seven runs in five innings, including Cooper's fourth homer of the season. Losing pitcher Troy Mooney fared even worse, giving up two hits and three runs without recording an out.

Salem got to Grant Sullivan for five hits and five runs in 2 1\3 innings before relievers Steve Munda (1-1) and Scott Gully stemmed the tide. The Buccaneers had only one hit after the third inning.
