`WARNING' SHOT HITS S.E. ROANOKE MAN

A Southeast Roanoke man was in critical condition Tuesday from a shotgun blast to the chest that the shooter said was intended as a warning shot.

Pellets from the 20-gauge shotgun nicked the heart of John Wayne Davis, 22, of the 1300 block of Stewart Avenue.

Police found Davis lying between two houses in the 1000 block of Jamison Avenue Southeast after a caller reported shots fired shortly before midnight Monday.

Witnesses said several people were arguing in an alley before the shooting. The argument apparently stemmed from one man's attempt to take his clothes out of a house.

Police said they found a shotgun near where Davis was lying.

Authorities declined to release the name of the person who fired the shot until the investigation is complete.
