OBIT DOWDY, MYRTLE OVERSTREET

DOWDY, Myrtle Overstreet, 86, of Newport News, formerly of Bedford County, passed away Monday, August 23, 1993, in a Newport News nursing home. She was born August 21, 1907 in Bedford, a daughter of the late John William Overstreet and Birta Woods Overstreet. She was preceded in death by her husband, Marvin E. Dowdy. She was a member of the Quaker Baptist Church. She is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Paul J. (Gail) Hayes, Newport News, Mrs. Howard (Jewel Mae) Bridges, Asheville, North Carolina, Mrs. Henry (Norene) Miller, Kwajalein, Marshall Islands; three sisters, Mrs. Purney Hannabass, Roanoke, Va., Mrs. Ossie Carter, Bedford, Mrs. Melba Frankie Williamson, Newport News; one brother, Mr. Everett Overstreet, Rocky Mount, Va.; nine grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, August 28, 1993 at 11 a.m. from the Quaker Baptist Church, by the Rev. Lewis Garst. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday evening from 7:30 until 9 p.m. at the Updike Funeral Home, Bedford, Va.
