She succeeds Nikki Martin who has left to attend the University of Massachusetts, where she will work on a masters degree in American history.
Hill, a 1987 Salem High School graduate, has degrees from Roanoke College and the University of Virginia.
One of her first major tasks with the museum will be to set up a new exhibit - "Salem: The Switzerland of the South," depicting Salem in the 1890's.
It will be the museum's main floor feature during the Olde Salem Days celebration Sept. 11.
This exhibit, she said, depicts an aspect of history that is her favorite - the daily lives of people in times past.
The Salem Museum is on East Main Street in Salem on the eastern corner of Longwood Park.
