\ AIRMAN MICHAEL H. NEVERGOLD, son of JoAnn Overstreet of 6139 Darby Road, has been sent to Naval Air Station Cecil Field in Jacksonville, Fla. as part of the USS Theodore Roosevelt Battle Group. He is a 1989 graduate of William Byrd High School.
\ NAVY PETTY OFFICER 2ND CLASS BRIAN P. SCHENKEL, son of Jerry W. Schenkel of 2620 Longview Ave. and Diane Turner of 3464 Oaklawn Ave., has returned to Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, after a six-month deployment to the Western Pacific and Persian Gulf on the USS Kitty Hawk. He is a 1987 graduate of Cave Spring High School.
\ GINA L. HILGER, daughter of Jerry D. and Mary S. Hilger of Troutville, has been commissioned a second lieutenant after graduating with a bachelor of science degree from the Air Force Academy. Hilger is a 1989 graduate of Lord Botetourt High School.
\ NAVY AIRMAN APPRENTICE JOE N. GAYTOPS and PETTY OFFICER 2ND CLASS LOUIS A. JOHNSON have been deployed aboard the aircraft carrier USS Theodore Roosevelt, stationed in Norfolk.
Gaytops is a 1990 graduate of William Fleming High School and the son of Lottie M. Gaytops of 1021 Rockland Ave. N.W.
Johnson is a 1978 graduate of Patrick Henry High School.
\ AIRMAN 1ST CLASS BRANDON B. PLASTER, son of Leonard F. and Ann W. Plaster of 1721 Maiden Lane S.W., has graduated from basic training at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas. He is a 1991 graduate of William Fleming High School.
\ AIRMAN JAMES H. JOHNSON III, son of Pamela J. Leffler of 602 Front St., Salem, has graduated from basic training at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas. He is a 1991 graduate of Salem High School.
\ SGT. MICHAEL D. PRESTON, son of Isabel Preston of 411 Third St. N.W., has re-enlisted in the Army for four years. He is a 1986 graduate of Patrick Henry High School.
\ NAVY PETTY OFFICER 1ST CLASS RICKY H. BRATTON, son of George H. and Betty S. Bratton of 4332 Oliver Road N.E., recently participated in a fleet exercise in the Western Atlantic. Bratton, a 1975 graduate of Andrew Lewis High School, is serving aboard the USS America, stationed in Norfolk.
\ NAVY PETTY OFFICER 2ND CLASS DAVID I. HUNTER, a 1979 graduate of Patrick Henry High School, recently participated in a fleet exercise in the Western Atlantic.
\ LEONARD C. DILLON JR., son of Mr. and Mrs. Leonard C. Dillon of Roanoke, completed basic training at Marine Corps Training Depot at Parris Island, S.C.
\ MARINE PFC. STEVEN E. DONOVAN, son of Judy K. and Steven E. Donovan Sr. of Roanoke, has reported for duty in Quantico.
\ AIRMAN LARRY DEAN MAYS, son of Doris K. Mays of Roanoke and the late Larry W. Mays, has graduated from basic training and security police air force training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas, and air base ground defense training at Fort Dix, N.J. He is now stationed at Hurlbert Field, Fla.
\ SHELLEY L. BALDERSON of Roanoke has been promoted to captain in the Army Reserve and has assumed command of a company at Fort Pickett.
