The company said the move will create a "mega dealership," with an 800-vehicle inventory at a single location.
The company's plans call for expansion of the Williamson Road lot to accommodate the Buick product line and construction of new showroom. Details of the expansion were not available Friday.
The Williamson Road facility has "a large, well-trained, professional sales force" and its service area is one of the largest west of Richmond, said Robert Harper, general sales manager of Berglund Chevrolet-GEO-Jeep-Eagle.
Bruce Farrell, president of the Berglund Group, was not available Friday and others at the company would not say what effect the move will have on employment or the company's plans for the Franklin Road property.
Until July 1992, the Franklin Road site housed both the company's Mazda and Buick lines. Then, the Mazda dealership was moved to Berglund's Farrell Ford-Pontiac operation in Salem.
The Berglund Chevrolet dealership is more than 20 years old. In 1992 the Berglund Group sold 7,800 vehicles, the company said.
